Dental Insurance
As we grow older, we find that a pain in our mouth
usually gives us a larger pain in our money pocket.
More importantly, the Surgeon General reports that
poor care of your mouth and teeth can affect your
overall health and well being throughout your entire
life.
Improving your oral health can sometimes be a real
challenge. Quitting the use of tobacco, reducing excess
alcohol consumption, and making better dietary choices
are often easier said than done. Of course even with
the challenges that you may have, good oral hygiene
practices such as brushing and flossing can minimize
your problems. But first you need to see a dentist
regularly . . .and that cost money.
Most everyone recognizes the need for a good medical
insurance to ensure access to good health care, but
many times if dental care is not offered in our portfolio,
our dental care is often neglected. Many people overlook
and sometimes just cannot afford regular check-ups
and early treatment. But as we have probably figured
out, when you wait until the dental problem is serious,
it’s bound to cost you more in terms of dollars
and your oral health.
Dental insurance can provide you with an effective
way to help control the high cost of dental care,
and it removes many of the excuses we have for not
going to the dentist. Many employers offer group dental
insurance at reasonable rates and now there are plans
for the individual without being involved with group
coverage.
Dental plans usually cover a wide range of services.
These include preventive care, emergency care, and
procedures such as crowns, root canals, periodontics,
orthodontics, oral surgery and more.
Today’s plans either pay a fixed amount for
a particular procedure or a percentage of the cost.
Often, you are required to meet a modest annual deductible.
Normally you will not have to be medically approved
for dental insurance, but there may be a waiting period
that applies to all but preventive, diagnostic, and
more basic type services. Plans usually have an annual,
and sometimes even a lifetime, maximum benefit.
When shopping for dental insurance, compare not only
rates but also the level of benefits offered.
